Best Time to Visit Toronto

Updated 2026-10-26

Toronto has four distinct seasons: warm, humid summers, colourful autumns, cold and snowy winters, and a changeable spring. There is no single best month — it depends on what you want to do. This guide covers what to expect and which kinds of experiences fit each season.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is the busiest and warmest season, with long days that suit outdoor plans: bike tours, the Toronto Islands and walking tours. It is also festival season, including the Toronto Caribbean Carnival. Book popular tours ahead and bring sun protection and water.

Autumn (September to November)

Early autumn is often the most comfortable time to visit, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds after the summer peak. The Toronto International Film Festival takes place in September, and October brings autumn colour to the countryside — a good time for day trips such as Muskoka or Niagara.

Winter (December to March)

Winters are cold, with snow and icy pavements, so warm layers and waterproof boots matter. The skating rink at Nathan Phillips Square is a winter classic, and indoor options such as food tours and cooking classes work well. For a real winter adventure, the Bon Echo snowshoeing trip runs in the snow season — see its page for the operator’s packing list.

Spring (April and May)

Spring weather swings between cool and mild, and rain is common. Walking and food tours are good choices because they work in most weather; check each tour’s page for its weather policy before you go.

Planning tips

Prices on tour pages are examples from the booking calendar and can change by date. Check the cancellation policy before booking, especially for outdoor experiences and private tours, which often need more notice to change.
